In recent years, with the development of the Hefei Gathering Center for China-Europe Railway Express as a key driver, Anhui has actively fostered diverse forms of hub economy and promoted the transformation and upgrading from a corridor-based economy to a hub-oriented economy. More than 6,200 China-Europe (Asia) Railway Express trains have been operated across the province, with the total value of goods transported exceeding US$14 billion and benefiting more than 800 enterprises across the province.

The “railway express + industry” model facilitates targeted matching, while customized services support exports by key enterprises. To meet the diverse and specialized needs of enterprises, the China-Europe (Asia) Railway Express platform provides one-on-one, one-stop and end-to-end customized services. More than 1,700 customized trains, including the Jianghuai, Chery and Midea services, have been operated. The cargo mix has shifted from mainly daily consumer goods to high-value-added products made in Anhui, including automobiles, home appliances and equipment manufacturing products. Automobiles, white goods, and machinery and spare parts account for 33%, 20% and 12%, respectively, of high-value-added cargo.

The “railway express + warehousing” model expands capacity and enhances quality, upgrading the hub’s functions into an integrated four-in-one system. The Hefei Gathering Center for China-Europe (Asia) Railway Express has completed seven key projects, including the Hefei North Railway Station Logistics Base and Hefei International Inland Port. These projects integrate four functions: railway express services, port operations, trade and hub services. The hub has an annual freight handling capacity of up to 82,000 TEUs and has built approximately 700,000 square meters of warehousing facilities. Efforts have also been made to attract enterprises such as China Postal Express & Logistics and China Railway International Multimodal Transport Shanghai Branch to establish operations at the hub. More than 2,000 enterprises of various types have gathered within the hub.

The “railway express + finance” model has achieved innovative breakthroughs, successfully opening a digital financing channel for freight payments. The credit standing and business scale of the China-Europe (Asia) Railway Express platform have continued to improve. Anhui’s first railway freight voucher service for China-Europe Railway Express was successfully launched in Hefei. The initiative innovatively integrates China-Europe Railway Express freight-payment scenarios into Bohai Bank’s domestic letter-of-credit services. Leveraging an online, scenario-based and customized service model, it has successfully opened up a digital financing channel for railway freight vouchers in the China-Europe Railway Express context.
