In the Year of the Horse, museums across the Jianghuai region are experiencing a unique wave of cultural enthusiasm. During the Spring Festival holiday, museums at all levels across the province have prepared a vibrant and flavorful "cultural feast" under the theme "Welcoming the Spring with the Galloping Horse · Embracing Blessings with Anhui Charm." This initiative allows visitors and locals to explore history and experience intangible cultural heritage, finding their own "poetry and distant horizons."
Stepping into the Anhui Museum, the rich festive atmosphere is immediately palpable. On the morning of the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, the second-floor Hui Studies Hall was bustling with activity. Paper-cutting artists joined visitors in experiencing the art of Spring Festival paper-cutting, with red paper flipping and turning as beautiful window decorations emerged. Meanwhile, the Lunar New Year market within the museum was exceptionally lively. Over 80 cultural and creative products with distinctive Anhui characteristics made their dazzling debut. At the Anbo Seal Studio, over 30 limited-edition Lunar New Year seals, including "Abundant Blessings," "Bronze Blessings for the Lunar New Year," and "Come to Anhui for Prosperity," became highly sought-after collectibles for many visitors.
This bustling scene is just a snapshot of the Spring Festival cultural offerings across museums in the province. At the Anhui Chu Culture Museum in Shouxian County, Huainan City, interactive experiences brought history within reach. Children, guided by volunteers, created woodblock New Year prints with their own hands and explored the wisdom of traditional architecture through mortise and tenon joints. Ms. Li from Huainan, who visited with her family, was still brimming with excitement after watching a performance at the "Chu Rhyme Theater." "In the past, celebrating the Lunar New Year meant just eating and watching TV," she said. "But this year, engaging in hands-on activities at the museum was mentally stimulating. The children learned something, and we adults rediscovered the ritualistic feel of celebrating the Lunar New Year from our childhood."
At the Anhui China Huizhou Culture Museum, the Lunar New Year customs of Huizhou were brought to life in vivid detail. During the "Intangible Cultural Heritage Experience Session" on the third day of the Lunar New Year, several out-of-town visitors followed representative inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, learning to make rubbings of Huizhou's three types of carving. The Huizhou Museum also launched a special "Daily Intangible Cultural Heritage" activity, covering everything from paper-cutting to bamboo weaving, allowing visitors to understand, through firsthand creation, the meticulousness and dedication ingrained in the Huizhou spirit.
From the heartfelt warmth of "Spreading Blessings through Calligraphy" to the vibrant energy of the "Cultural Heritage Lunar New Year Market"; from lively in-person crowds to real-time online interactions, museums are no longer cold halls but have transformed into warm cultural gathering places. A representative from the Anhui Museum stated that this event will continue until the second day of the second lunar month. Some venues will also launch "Magic Museum Nights," allowing "museums with lights never turned off" to illuminate the cultural life of the public.
