Recently, the urban construction management departments of Huangshan City in Anhui, Chengdu City in Sichuan, Wulong District in Chongqing, Zhongshan City in Guangdong, Huzhou City and Shaoxing City in Zhejiang, Quanzhou City in Fujian, Jiujiang City and Ganzhou City in Jiangxi, and Jinzhong City in Shanxi—a total of 10 cities (districts)—issued a joint declaration on the protection of historical and cultural cities. Additionally, Huangshan City held a ceremony to initiate its application for recognition as a national historical and cultural city.

Currently, Huangshan City boasts 2 national historical and cultural cities, 1 provincial historical and cultural city, 3 national historical and cultural towns, 1 provincial historical and cultural town, 1 Chinese historical and cultural district, 11 provincial historical and cultural districts, 16 Chinese historical and cultural villages, 4 provincial historical and cultural villages, 49 key national cultural heritage sites, 117 provincial cultural heritage sites, 310 traditional Chinese villages, as well as tens of thousands of historic buildings and immovable cultural relics.

Following its approval as a provincial historical and cultural city in May this year, Huangshan City quickly initiated the application for recognition as a national historical and cultural city. This move not only continues the efforts to protect and inherit historical and cultural heritage comprehensively but also self-imposes pressure to transform heritage revitalization into a driving force for sustainable economic and social development.

As the core area of the national-level Huizhou Cultural Ecology Protection Area, Huangshan City has always prioritized protection, coordinating the preservation, inheritance, and utilization of historical and cultural heritage.
