On the afternoon of June 9, the clinical trial of the Beinao No.1 intelligent brain-computer interface system was officially launched at the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical University (Yijishan Hospital). This marks the first clinical trial project of China’s core brain-computer interface product Beinao No.1 in Anhui Province. It signals accelerated rollout of clinically translated brain-computer interface technology and lays a solid foundation for innovative research and industrial application of such technology across the province.

As the National Regional Medical Center for Neurological Diseases and Anhui Provincial Medical Center for Neurological Diseases, the First Affiliated Hospital of Wannan Medical University (Yijishan Hospital) has delved deep into frontiers of neuroscience. It prioritizes brain-computer interfaces for disciplinary advancement and technological innovation. The hospital completed Anhui’s first implantable brain-computer interface surgery and hosted the 1st Symposium on Neuromodulation and Brain-Computer Interfaces. Remarkable progress has been made in integrating industry, academia and research for brain-computer interfaces driven by clinical demands.

Beinao No.1 is a new-generation fully domestically developed implantable brain-computer interface system. Adopting a semi-invasive design and equipped with flexible high-density electrodes of 128 channels, it enables patients to control robotic arms via mind power and reconstruct motor functions, among other capabilities.

This trial not only fills the gap in this field within Anhui Province, but also fosters the establishment of a full clinical translation chain covering regional brain-computer interfaces, neuromodulation and intelligent medical equipment.
