From May 19 to 20, the Hefei main event of the 2026 International Day for Biological Diversity was held in Lujiang County, Hefei City.

Leaders from the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences, South China Institute of Environmental Sciences and Satellite Environment Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, as well as relevant officials from the Department of Ecology and Environment of Anhui Province, Hefei Municipal People's Government and Lujiang County People's Government attended the event.

Around 300 participants including staff from ecological and environmental bureaus of cities in the Hefei Metropolitan Circle, Chaohu Administration Bureau of Anhui Province, municipal government departments of Hefei, universities, research institutions, social organizations and volunteers took part in the activity.

At the event site, practical achievements in biodiversity conservation and sustainable utilization of Anhui Province, results of Hefei's intelligent monitoring system and videos of the public spring biodiversity survey were released. Experts from Nanjing Institute of Environmental Sciences delivered special lectures on intelligent monitoring and construction of ecological experience sites.

Representatives of ecological and environmental bureaus from seven cities in the Hefei Metropolitan Circle signed the Cooperation Agreement of Biodiversity-friendly Alliance, and the county-level data sharing mechanism in Hefei was officially launched, marking further progress in coordinated regional ecological protection.

In addition, ten public ecological open routes in Hefei were unveiled, and the recruitment of public ecological ambassadors was launched. Lujiang County also released its county-level ecological map.

Person in charge of Maying Village shared stories of the Seed Program, and representatives from all walks of life shared their experiences in biodiversity conservation.

A carbon neutrality declaration was read out and relevant certificates were awarded at the scene.

With the theme of Protect All Living Creatures, Foster Co-prosperity of All Things, the event held a special themed exhibition named Return to Nature, Embrace Ecology: The Road of Ecological Protection in Anhui.

The exhibition integrated photographic records, intelligent monitoring devices, popular science education and ecological markets. Through achievement displays and interactive science popularization activities, it promotes biodiversity conservation from public consensus to joint participation of all citizens.
