【AICC Original Article】First cantilever-assembled steel box girder of Huaihe River Bridge in Bengbu successfully hoisted
On the morning of May 17, a cantilever-assembled steel box girder was accurately pulled into position by deck cranes. China Railway No.4 Engineering Group successfully completed the hoisting of the first cantilever steel girder for the bridge. This key milestone officially kicks off the cantilever assembly construction phase of steel box girders.

The main bridge stretches 2270 meters in total. Its river-crossing section is a double-pylon double-cable-stayed bridge with a length of 839.8 meters and a main span of 420 meters, ranking it the bridge with the largest main span in the Huaihe River Basin. The newly hoisted girder is 41 meters long, 12 meters wide and weighs 248.6 tons. A total of 29 such girders will be assembled in this way.
To tackle core construction difficulties, the project team adopted innovative technologies including BIM 3D simulation preview and 3D laser scanning fitting to simulate the whole hoisting and positioning process and confirm accurate docking coordinates. For stable high-altitude hoisting of heavy girders, they applied dual-crane lifting, synchronous traction and dynamic stability control, monitoring hoisting speed and girder posture in real time, greatly boosting construction safety and efficiency.
Upon completion, the bridge will effectively ease north-south traffic pressure, boost integrated development on both sides of the Huaihe River, and accelerate the formation of Bengbu’s river-centered urban development pattern.
