【AICC Original Article】Bengbu Tenghu Airport officially opens for service — Anhui’s 8th civil transport airport
At about 10:00 a.m. on April 29, with Donghai Airlines flight DZ6253 touching down smoothly on the apron of Bengbu Tenghu Airport, the airport’s inaugural flight was successfully completed, marking the official opening of the facility as Anhui Province’s 8th civil transport airport.
At 7:50 a.m. that morning, Donghai Airlines flight DZ6253, piloted by Captain Nian Wei from Huaiyuan, Bengbu, departed from Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. After more than two hours in the air, the aircraft arrived at Bengbu Tenghu Airport and docked at Apron Gate 6. Mr. Meng, a Bengbu resident and one of the inaugural passengers, told reporters that he has traveled frequently between Shenzhen and Bengbu for over ten years and said, “It feels great to finally be able to fly directly home.”
After the landing, a brief ceremony was held at the Tenghu Airport terminal to welcome the inaugural flight crew and all passengers to Bengbu Tenghu Airport.
Bengbu Tenghu Airport is located in Tenghu Village, Feihe Town, Huaiyuan County, approximately 37 kilometers in a straight line from the city center. Classified as a 4C‑level domestic regional airport, it can handle up to 1.8 million passengers and 10,000 tonnes of cargo and mail per year. In the initial stage, the Shenzhen–Bengbu inaugural route opened on April 29, and starting May 1 the Shenzhen–Bengbu–Dalian round‑trip route will begin operating with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
According to near‑ and long‑term plans, in the first year the airport plans to progressively open routes to 11 cities — including Guangzhou, Chengdu, Chongqing, Haikou, and Harbin — across 8 routes, covering major domestic economic regions, tourist cities, and hub nodes to establish a basic route network. Within five years, flights are expected to expand to 28 cities on more than 20 routes, with passenger throughput growing from 300,000 to 1,000,000, positioning the airport as a northern Anhui air gateway connecting core regions such as the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, Beijing‑Tianjin‑Hebei, and Chengdu‑Chongqing.
