A reporter learned from State Grid Anhui Electric Power Company that during this year's Spring Festival, State Grid Anhui Electric Power (hereinafter "State Grid Anhui") will launch an innovative "Charge EVs with Green Power" program.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. on February 14 (the 27th day of the twelfth lunar month), residential EV charger users with standalone household accounts can sign up for the "Charge EVs with Green Power" campaign via State Grid Anhui's WeChat service account; registration will remain open until the end of the campaign. Once registered, during the designated task period—this year's Lunar New Year Day 1 to Day 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.—new-energy vehicle owners will receive a RMB 1.5 electricity subsidy for every kilowatt-hour charged.

It is reported that this year roughly 80% of Spring Festival travel will be by private car. Anhui, which links east to west and north to south, is expected to see about 140 million vehicles pass through provincial highway exits during the travel season—an increase of 9% compared with Spring Festival travel in 2025. Demand for EV charging by returning residents in Anhui will therefore continue to grow. At the same time, during the holiday the province's peak new-energy generation capacity can reach 40 million kilowatts, with photovoltaic power accounting for nearly 90%, so the need to absorb renewable generation will also further increase.

To precisely match EV charging demand during the Spring Festival with the need to absorb renewable power, State Grid Anhui has introduced this public‑benefit program.

On the day after the campaign ends, State Grid Anhui will calculate the eligible charged energy for all participating users in its system and distribute the rewards to the corresponding electricity accounts within 10 working days. Prior to this, State Grid Anhui organized a province‑wide safety check of residential chargers to ensure safe EV charging and accurate metering.

The "Charge EVs with Green Power" initiative, by offering tangible electricity bill rewards, promotes efficient use of renewable energy and provides a new pathway for balancing supply and demand in the modern power system; it can also save coal‑fired power resources, effectively reduce fossil energy consumption and carbon emissions, and help promote green travel and low‑carbon lifestyles.
